The service was held in the crematorium chapel and was a mix of beautiful poems, live music, the reading of baby names and the lighting of candles, followed by a balloon release in the Never Land baby garden. The service was attended by the deputy mayor and mayoress of Chesterfield and many bereaved families and friends from our local community. David Smith began the service by singing “Lullaby (Goodnight My Angel)”. Claire Cadman shared her story, her son and her reason for wanting to create a service for others. Poems read included ones written by group members June Larner and Claire Cadman and were read by Chesterfield Sands committee member, Emma Sheppard and Pat Willerton from Crowder and Alderson Funeral Directors. Lyn Guerriero, bereavement midwife at The Birth Centre, Chesterfield Royal Hospital was amongst the volunteers who read out the baby names for the lighting of the candles. Maxwell Thorpe then sung the beautiful song ‘To Where You Are’ after which families were given time to reflect on their thoughts and remember their precious babies. The families were then invited to collect a balloon to attach their personal messages to, and proceeded to the Never Land Garden. Whilst in the beautiful Never Land garden a few words were said and the balloons were released by the families and ascended up into the cloudy skies above. Refreshments were available afterwards, giving the families time to come together and share their precious babies, their reason for coming to our beautiful remembrance service.
It was a beautiful, emotional yet fitting service to mark Pregnancy and Baby Loss Awareness week and a lovely way to remember all those precious babies no longer with us.
We would like to say special thanks to all of those that helped with this special service, to Claire Cadman for organising it to perfection and for sharing her story of her precious son Luke with us all. To Sam Wheatcroft for conducting the event so wonderfully and for sharing her baby daughter with us all. To the Chesterfield and District Crematorium staff for all their continuing help. To the amazing singers David Smith and Maxwell Thorpe for their beautiful and moving performances. And to Pure Party and Rubicon Print Ltd for their generous contributions. And of course many thanks to the families who came to share in this service with us. We hope to see you all again next year.
