Chesterfield Sands is a local support group which has been set up by local parents who have all suffered the devastating loss of a baby. Part of the National Sands Charity (Stillbirth and neonatal death charity), Chesterfield Sands has been set up to offer support to anyone affected by the loss of a baby, at any stage of pregnancy, before, during or after birth. We hold monthly support meetings to offer support, comfort and understanding to anyone affected by the loss of a baby. Our friendly and relaxed meetings are an opportunity for bereaved parents to meet others who have been through a similar experience. We support families locally and other areas including Sheffield, Doncaster and Worksop.
Our aims at Chesterfield Sands are to provide anyone affected by the loss of a baby, at any stage of pregnancy, help and support though our monthly support meetings, to provide one to one telephone support and advice through our Helpline or by e-mail and to provide information on all aspects of the loss of a baby to bereaved families and health professionals. We work with the local hospital and other health professionals to improve care given to all families before, during and after their loss, to make this devastating process a little easier on all the family and friends affected by that loss.
One of the main things our bereaved families talk about is the need of finding a quiet, serene, comforting place to go to remember their babies. This is why Chesterfield Sands Support Group members are joining together with Chesterfield joint crematorium committee and Chesterfield Borough Council to plan and build baby memorial gardens for bereaved families in our local community and surrounding areas. We are building the first memorial garden at Brimington Crematorium, the second at Boythorpe cemetery and we will also looking at Staveley cemetery, although the areas are small and limited there. We will therefore be holding local fundraising events throughout the coming months and all money raised will go to The Baby Memorial Garden Fund. We will also contact local businesses to ask for their help in raising money and donating their services or supplies to help us with our project.
